Roofing Contractors: Find Yourself a Good One

Finding roofing contractors is easy. Finding a good roofing contractor, might take just a bit more of your time, but it will be well worth the effort.

There are a few legitimate Maple Grove roofing contractors around that are able to provide you with a quality roof repair. However, there are probably more claims of fraud in the roofing industry than in any other. It seems that the roofing business attracts fly-by-night rip offs like a magnet. You need to be sure that any contractor that you hire is going to do a good job and will still be around if any problems show up later.

There are a number of would be roofing contractors that go door-to-door soliciting work. Many of these impostor contractors are not licensed or insured. They may ask for a large portion or even their entire fee in advance, and then they may just disappear. There are also some contractors that are licensed, but change their business name frequently to avoid the bad reputation they have from previous activities. They might do the job, but the quality may be questionable and they may not provide promised warranty service.

As with many businesses, 70 to 80 percent of roofing contractors go out of business within two years. Only about five percent are still in business after five years. If your contractors not around when a problem develops, you really don't have a warranty any more.

So how can you avoid making a poor choice in hiring a contractor?

Make sure that any roofing contractor you consider:

  • is licensed,
  • is insured for liability and workers compensation,
  • has been in business at the same address for a while,
  • has a list of satisfied customers that you can contact,
  • offers a warranty on labor and materials, and,
  • provides a written estimate or contract with all of the details you were promised.

Ask your potential contractor to provide evidence of any of this information. A legitimate roofing contractor will understand your concerns and will happily provide it for you.

And don't ignore your gut feeling. If you don't feel comfortable about doing business with them, trust your instincts and move on to another contractor.

Staying Safe While Installing or Repairing a Roof

If you've decided to take the DIY route with roofing repairs or installation, the most important thing to remember is to stay safe. As Maple Grove roofing contractors, we know how crucial it is to be careful when working on a roof. Here are a few tips to keep in mind as you work on your roof:

Pay attention to the weather reports
Do not make the risk greater by deciding to do roofing repairs on a windy day or one where temperatures are extremely cold. If you need to make a winter repair, it may be best to call in a professional as they have the experience necessary to do the job.

Check the surface
Cold, windy weather is not the only danger: be sure to watch for any falling debris or leaves that may be on the roof, as these will make the roof more slippery.

Clean as you go
You do not want to slip or lose your balance due to leaving your tools, supplies or trash where you can slip on them.

How to Determine If You Need a Roof Repair

As a homeowner, there are a lot of facets of your home you need to pay attention to in terms of maintenance, but one of the most important parts is your roof. This has a big role in protecting your home from the elements, so it's important that you keep an eye on it and watch for any potential damage. Here are a few things to look at so you can determine if your roof needs to be repaired.

Take a look inside the attic. A roof that appears okay from the outside can still have problems that aren't visible to the naked eye. Look for water that might have soaked into your attic, preferably during daylight hours so you can potentially see light coming through any small holes that might be present.

Examine your home's ceiling. On occasion, leaks can be undetected from inside the attic, but can still make the way down to the ceiling in your home. Look for any water damage here. If you find some, there's probably a problem with the drainage on your roof somewhere.

Have a specialist thoroughly inspect your roof. There are some issues that your roof could have that escape the naked eye, and might also slip by a homeowner who isn't trained in roof inspections and repairs. By hiring a Minneapolis roof repair company like Ryan Roofing, you can be sure your roof is being completely and thoroughly checked out.

Don't wait another day to figure out if your roof needs repaired. Get in touch with Ryan Roofing today by calling (651) 501-5969.

As summer progresses and storm damage (most notably hail) affects homes and businesses, many so-called Minneapolis roof repair companies come out of the woodwork and promise to repair what’s been damaged at a low cost. In many cases, work is done, but it’s poor quality. In some cases, however, these companies take the money and run.

Don’t let yourself be affected by a roof repair scam. Take the following precautions before hiring someone to fix your roof:

1. Make sure they’re fully licensed and insured
2. Attain from them a list of references
3. Check and make sure they are registered with your state
4. Research them on the Internet

With these simple steps, you can make sure your money doesn’t go to waste.

A Leaky Roof

When your roof is leaking, it can cause a number of different problems for you. The first problem, and probably the most obvious, is that it allows water to drip into your exterior. While setting up a pan to catch the water seems like an easy fix, it isn't a long term solution. After all, that water that's dripping in is coming through your ceiling, which means your ceiling is probably becoming water damaged in the process. The best thing to do in this situation is to call a company in to take care of things.

St Louis Park roof repair company Ryan Roofing has been helping homeowners take care of roofing issues like this for almost 40 years. Get in touch with us today at (651) 501-5969 to learn more about how we can help!
